Visits from AI: script, GA4 and Search Console
Visits from AI (under Reports) shows how many people reach your site by clicking a link in an AI answer, and on which pages.
The measurement script
Copy the script from Visits from AI. It’s the same for every page: under 1 KB, no cookies, no storage, no visitor IDs; we only keep daily counts per page. Paste it once in the <head> of every page:
Framer
- 1Open your project and go to Project Settings → Custom Code.
- 2Click «Add Script» (or «+») and name it «Citable».
- 3Paste the script, place it at the end of the <head> tag on all pages and choose «Run on every page visit».
- 4Publish the site: the script works on the published site, not in the canvas.
Webflow
- 1In the Designer, open Site settings → Custom code.
- 2Paste the script in «Head code».
- 3Click «Save changes» and publish the site to your domain.
Webflow only lets you save custom code on a paid Site plan.
WordPress
- 1Plugins → Add New Plugin, search for «WPCode», install and activate it.
- 2Open Code Snippets → Header & Footer.
- 3Paste the script in the «Header» box and save.
On WordPress.com this needs a Personal plan or higher.
Shopify
- 1Online Store → Themes (duplicate the theme first as a backup).
- 2On your current theme, click «…» → Edit code and open layout/theme.liquid.
- 3Paste the script just before </head> and click Save.
Checkout pages use their own template and aren’t counted.
Other
- 1Paste the script before </head> in the template shared by every page.
- 2With Google Tag Manager: a «Custom HTML» tag with the «All Pages» trigger, then publish the container.
Publish, open any page of your site in another tab and click Check installation.
Google Analytics 4 instead
Already use GA4 and prefer not to touch the code? Click Connect Google Analytics 4 and choose the property. Access is read-only: every day we store only counts per day and landing page (total sessions and sessions from AI assistants). If you also install the script, the script wins.
GA4 counts sessions, not pageviews, and can take 24–48 hours to settle a day.
Search Console
Connect it from the Getting started list on the Dashboard or from Articles → Page improvements. Access is read-only (clicks, impressions, CTR and position per page) and syncs every Monday. It feeds article ideas and page improvements.
What it can’t see
- Clicks from Google AI Overviews and AI Mode arrive with the same referrer as a normal Google search, so they count as Google, not as AI.
- Some apps (mobile assistants, desktop apps, links copied into a chat) don’t send the page they come from. Those visits look direct, so every figure is a minimum.
- Visitors who block scripts aren’t counted, and neither are bots: they don’t run JavaScript.
AI bots reading your pages are visible only for sites served through Lantis, and only on translated pages.
