Get your WordPress.com site cited by AI search.

Sites hosted on WordPress.com don’t always have plugins or application passwords. Citable connects with your WordPress.com account instead, on any plan, measures whether AI cites you and publishes sourced articles as posts.

Why AI cites (or skips) WordPress.com sites

AI search engines quote pages that answer a buyer’s question in text they can read, from sources they trust. WordPress.com serves ordinary HTML pages, so what matters is whether you have posts that answer those questions, and whether AI crawlers are allowed in.

Citable measures, week by week, the questions where AI cites a competitor or a third-party page instead of you, and writes the posts that cover them, with sources and internal links to your own pages.

What gets in the way on WordPress.com

Citable’s weekly audit checks your public site from outside, the way AI crawlers see it, and tells you what to change.

01

Plugins depend on your plan

SEO plugins and application passwords are only available on WordPress.com plans that allow plugins. That’s why Citable has its own WordPress.com connector, which uses WordPress.com sign-in and works on every plan.

02

Adding code to the header

Citable’s cookieless visits script goes in the site header, which WordPress.com allows on the Personal plan or higher. Without it, you can connect Google Analytics 4 instead to see visits from AI tools.

03

AI crawlers and indexing

Whatever the plan, the audit checks from outside whether your robots.txt lets each AI search crawler in and whether your important pages carry noindex, and tells you what to change.

04

Thin answers

A homepage under about 200 words of text gives AI little to understand or quote. The audit flags it; your posts are where the detailed answers belong.

Connect WordPress.com to Citable

Coming soon

Takes a few minutes. Every article then arrives in your CMS, as a draft or published on its own, depending on how you set publishing.

The WordPress.com connector is built; we’re finishing the app registration with WordPress.com. It will appear in Settings → CMS & publishing as soon as it’s switched on. Until then, the measurement and the audit already work for your site.

  1. 1

Create your Citable account and add your site: website, competitors and buyer questions.

  2. 2

Open Settings → CMS & publishing for that site and choose WordPress.com.

  3. 3

    Click “Connect with WordPress.com”.

  4. 4

Sign in, choose the site and approve access.

  5. 5

Back in Citable, we test the connection and show the connected site.

  6. 6

In the same tab, choose how articles get published: scheduled with an approval window, or Drafts only.

What you need

  • A WordPress.com account with the Author role or above on the site
  • Nothing to install: you approve access on WordPress.com and we keep an encrypted token for that site only

WordPress.com is not the same as self-hosted WordPress: it uses WordPress.com’s own API and sign-in, so it works on every plan. For WordPress on your own hosting (or WordPress.com Business with plugins), use the WordPress connector with an application password.

Citable on WordPress.com: questions

Can I connect WordPress.com today?

Not yet: it’s shown as “Coming soon” while we finish the app registration with WordPress.com. The connector is built and will appear in Settings → CMS & publishing as soon as it’s switched on.

What’s the difference with the WordPress connector?

The WordPress connector is for self-hosted WordPress and uses an application password. The WordPress.com connector uses WordPress.com’s own sign-in and API, so it works on every WordPress.com plan.

What access does Citable get?

Access to the one site you choose on WordPress.com’s approval screen. You need the Author role or above on that site. The token is stored encrypted.

Can Citable promise AI will cite my site?

No, and nobody can. Citable measures every week how often each AI mentions and cites you, with a confidence range, publishes sourced articles for the gaps and shows when a published URL starts being cited.
